Samsung Austin Semiconductor in Texas

Samsung Austin Semiconductor has been focused on creating a brighter future for the people of Texas and turning the Lonestar state into a leader in advanced technology.

Since first breaking ground in 1996, we’ve invested a total of $18 billion into our Austin site, bringing talent development and new opportunities to Texans and their businesses. In 2020, Austin Semiconductor’s economic impact on Central Texas totaled over $4.5 billion, supporting nearly 10,000 jobs and producing more than $468 million in salaries. Now after investing in the people, technology, and growth of Texas, we’re betting on an even brighter future together.

The new facility we’re building in Taylor, Texas is an extension of our ongoing commitment. Each new manufacturing facility we build helps us develop technologies that will unlock the experiences of tomorrow, and allows us to make a difference in peoples’ lives today.

An Exciting
Opportunity

Samsung Semiconductor Taylor Plant Site

What makes the Taylor project so exciting is its potential to positively impact the lives of people around the world and in its own backyard.

Set to break ground in 2022 with the goal of launching operations in 2026, our Taylor facility will boost the production of semiconductor solutions that will power next-generation technologies in areas like 5G, artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC). With greater manufacturing capacity, we will be able to better serve the needs of our customers and contribute to the stability of the global semiconductor supply chain.

For Taylor, located less than 30 minutes from the Texas state capital of Austin, our investment will bring thousands of new jobs and valuable training. Together with our existing manufacturing site in Austin, the facility will allow us to open up exciting opportunities for Central Texans for years to come.

Greg Abbott, Governor, State of Texas

Samsung's decision to locate its cutting-edge semiconductor fabrication plant in Taylor is the single most significant and consequential development for the local economy since the International & Great Northern Railroad laid tracks here in the 1870s. The City of Taylor is honored to have been selected by Samsung as the site for this critically important project, and we look forward to a long-lasting and mutually-beneficial relationship between our community and the company.

With worldwide supply-chain disruptions, it is imperative that we bolster our domestic production capabilities for industries critical to national security. I am pleased Samsung is expanding their operations to Williamson County which will bring more good jobs to Central Texas as well as help combat the global semiconductor shortage.

John Cornyn, U.S Senator for Texas

It is imperative to the national security of the United States that we increase our leadership in the future design, manufacturing and development of advanced semiconductor chips. Of course, there is no better place for this important effort than the great state of Texas. I am thrilled to join Gov. Greg Abbott and Sen. John Cornyn in congratulating Samsung on its new semiconductor plant in Taylor, which will add thousands of high-paying jobs in the local area and ensure our state is a leader in chip manufacturing.

A Chance to Grow Together

Just as semiconductors are essential to enabling the technologies of tomorrow, nurturing potential is an essential part of building a brighter future for the next generation. This is why, in addition to creating thousands of jobs, Samsung Austin Semiconductor is contributing to the development of programs designed to foster young people’s growth.

As part of our investment in Taylor, Samsung Austin Semiconductor will donate funds to create a Samsung Skills Center for the Taylor Independent School District. The center will help students in the community develop valuable skills for future careers, and will also provide internships and recruiting opportunities.

Additionally, in the summer of 2022, Samsung Electronics' Austin facility ran an internship program for Taylor High School students, allowing them to work for six weeks either at a Taylor construction site or at the Austin plant.
