Who we are

Samsung Austin Research and Development Center (SARC) and Advanced Computing Lab (ACL) are divisions of Samsung Austin Semiconductor, LLC. At SARC/ACL, we are a design center of excellence developing GPU, custom System-on-Chip (SoC), and system technologies that power Samsung’s premium mobile and high-performance computing platforms used by millions worldwide.

Our mission is to deliver world-class, scalable GPU, compute, and platform architectures that enable market-leading performance, power efficiency, and immersive graphics experiences across mobile and emerging AI/ML workloads.

As the first to introduce hardware Ray Tracing on a mobile platform, we continue to redefine what’s possible in graphics, compute, and system innovation, transforming ambitious ideas into technologies that power real-world products. Our multidisciplinary teams span architecture, hardware design, software, advanced design technologies, and system engineering, enabling innovation from early concept to silicon realization and product deployment.

SARC/ACL offers an agile and innovative environment where curiosity is celebrated, ownership drives impact, learning is accelerated, and collaboration fuels innovation. Working alongside industry experts across disciplines, you’ll solve complex engineering challenges and help shape the future of Samsung’s computing technologies.

We are a multi-site R&D center with a presence in Austin (TX), San Jose (CA), and San Diego (CA).

2010 - Recent Our innovation journey
  1. 2010

    SARC was founded in Austin, TX.

  2. 2012

    Began architecture and development of Smartphone CPU and System IP.

  3. 2015

    First silicon on Premium Smartphone CPU and System IP with Samsung proprietary architecture.

  4. 2016

    Galaxy S7 production shipments with SARC CPU and System IP.

  5. 2017

    SARC merged with ACL in San Jose, CA. Galaxy S8, S9, S10, S20 production shipments with SARC CPU and System IP.

  6. 2019

    Started partnership with AMD to develop mobile GPU IP.

  7. 2021

    First manufactured SoC containing SARC premium smartphone GPU.

  8. 2022

    Xclipse 920 GPU and System IP power Galaxy S22 variants for selected international markets.

  9. 2023

    Established footprint in San Diego, CA. First to introduce hardware-accelerated ray tracing to mobile platform.

  10. 2024

    Xclipse 940 GPU commercialized with Galaxy S24 smartphones in the U.S.

  11. 2025

    Xclipse 950 GPU and System IP power Galaxy Z Flip 7 globally. Xclipse 940 GPU and System IP power Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE globally. Xclipse 960 GPU and System IP power Exynos 2600.
