While the Silicon Valley is well-known as the home to innovation and the richest technology, many are unaware that one out of every four Bay Area children lives in poverty. What’s even more alarming is that our community’s statistic lies higher than the national average. For over twenty years, Samsung has partnered with Family Giving Tree to directly help our community’s children in need. A public non-profit organization founded and based in the Bay Area, Family Giving Tree has a vision to make sure every child feels like a valuable and empowered part of their community. With the help of schools, charities, and community leaders, they have served almost 1.5 million children in the Bay Area by holding Holiday and Back to School Drives annually to gather resources for those in need and encourage service in the community. Last week, over one-hundred Samsung employees participated in our annual backpack drive held with Family Giving Tree. Together, we were able to donate and fill 750 backpacks with classroom and STEAM-based supplies for local high school students.

Samsung@First 2018 Backpack Drive While summer vacation may be in full-swing now, back to school season is quickly approaching, and for many families, the cost of school supplies can mean sacrificing necessities such as groceries or gas. Each backpack and respective bundle of supplies for a high school student can cost up to $95. We’re proud to have continued our partnership with a local organization dedicated to aiding the children in our community. Family Giving Tree offers multiple ways to volunteer your time or resources to provide children with the supplies they need.
