Samsung Semiconductor operates a dedicated department that focuses on partner environmental safety management support. In 2020, we carried out periodic environmental safety assessments at 511 of our key partners, which were followed up with consulting services for the partners that we found needed improvement.

The assessments revealed that 36 of our partners were highly vulnerable to risk and needed urgent change in how they manage on-site health and safety. To help those partners raise their environmental safety management standards, we provided consulting tailored to each of the partner’s environments. As a result, they saw significant improvement in 373 areas including periodic training, risk assessments and environmental contaminant management.

Samsung Semiconductor also offers professional environmental safety training to our partners through the Environmental Safety Academy. The courses are designed to raise awareness of the importance of environmental safety across the supply chain and help our partners and their employees create a strong health and safety-conscious work environment.

Strengthening the safety capabilities of partner companies through training

We provide training to executives and employees of our partner companies through the Samsung Semiconductor Partners’ Environmental Safety Academy. The Environmental Safety Academy is a program that we have run since 2019 to raise awareness of environmental safety and strengthen the capabilities of partner companies’ executives and employees. With the opening of the Environmental Safety Academy in 2019, we opened the Pyeongtaek Environmental Safety Academy in 2022, and are offering professional training related to environmental safety to our partner companies. We are running 25 courses and 300 training sessions per month, including legally mandatory training, an environmental safety training system, and a self-study support program.

A spacious five-story
building for partner
employees to receive
advanced training

The Environmental Safety Academy is situated on the outskirts of Seoul near our Giheung/Hwaseong sites and offers different types of innovative health and safety training in a large five-story building.

The building is large enough to offer a mix of training methods and amenities, from classrooms, VR experience rooms and a musculoskeletal center to rest areas, providing ample space for both lecture-type and on-hands learning. In addition to training courses, the academy offers seminars for partner CEOs as well as mindfulness sessions for managing stress.

Shifting the paradigm of safety management to focus on the people

In order to manage the environmental safety risks of our partner companies, we are training explosion-proof technicians and risk assessment specialists for them. We also carry out inspections on the assessment results in order to implement practical improvements and effectively prevent serious accidents according to the work risk assessments of our partner companies. In 2022, we conducted a training program for explosion-proof technicians and trained 630 explosion-proof technicians for a total of 64 partner companies. Also by training 1,294 risk assessment experts for 494 partner companies, we prevent accidents and contribute to improving our partner companies’ own safety management capabilities.

    The Environmental Safety Academy offers training to our partners and their employees in three areas. The compulsory training track consists of mandatory safety courses partner employees must take before entering Samsung Semiconductor sites. The certification track has 7 courses that train professional environmental and safety compliance officers, while the safety management track consists of 15 courses that train health and safety managers and cultivate health and safety leadership.
