This summer, two Fab interns received recognition for helping the Implant team identify and address issues related to high current tools.

One of the Fab interns, Justin Martinez, along with another Fab intern, worked with engineer Caleb Emesiani to help design and create an in-house solution.

“Working on this project with the Fab interns was incredible,” Emesiani said. “They were eager to get started and once we got the ball rolling, we were able to execute quickly and smoothly.”

While the project was a learning experience for everyone involved, Emesiani was impressed by the Fab interns’ willingness to learn, which is an asset in the semiconductor industry. “With any project, you will learn things along the way, and with every audit the interns demonstrated their adaptability, which is key in a culture as dynamic as Samsung Austin Semiconductor’s,” Emesiani said.

‘Skills that can be used anywhere’

Justin Martinez enrolled at Austin Community College (ACC) two years ago in the advanced manufacturing program and decided to join the Fab Intern Program to learn more about the advanced semiconductor manufacturing industry.

“When I initially started the program, my goal was to see if this was what I really wanted to do and invest time into. As time went on, I achieved that goal and set a new one to learn everything I could,” Martinez said.

Martinez, who is now going through the Fab Apprentice Program, is hoping to complete his classes and continue his career with Samsung Austin Semiconductor.

“Samsung Austin Semiconductor has already shown interest in helping me achieve my goals,” continued Martinez. “My supervisor is providing feedback on ways I can improve and is leading me in the right direction to develop my own skills that can be used anywhere.”

The Fab Intern Program is a 10-week paid summer internship offered to ACC students enrolled in qualified degree plans. Once the internship is complete, select interns will have the opportunity to join the Fab Apprentice Program. In the Fab Apprentice Program, students work two days per week at Samsung Austin Semiconductor while attending ACC.

Since 2022, 25 ACC students have participated in the Fab Internship Program and eight have graduated from the Fab Apprentice Program.

Applications for Samsung Austin Semiconductor’s Fab Intern and Apprentice Programs open in October and close in March.
