As part of Samsung Austin Semiconductor’s Volunteer Time Off (VTO) program, Taylor Independent School District (TISD) interns stepped up to give back to their community this summer—making a visible difference across the city of Taylor.

The group of 24 high school interns rolled up their sleeves to assist with multiple projects, including beautifying Murphy Park, mentoring young students at the Boys & Girls Club of East Williamson County and packing and distributing food at Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry. Through VTO, the interns gained valuable real-world experience while investing time and energy into the very town they call home.

At Murphy Park, students worked alongside the Taylor Parks & Recreation Department to help prepare the grounds for the city’s annual Fourth of July Celebration—one of the largest events of the summer.

“The impact of the Samsung interns was significant in preparing Murphy Park for the July Fourth Celebration,” said Betsy Schultz, Taylor Parks and Recreation superintendent. “With hundreds of Taylor residents and visitors from nearby communities gathering to enjoy the holiday, having extra hands made a big difference.”

Interns helped with trash pickup, painting and tree pruning. These efforts allowed city crews to redirect their focus to larger-scale maintenance like stump grinding, limb removal and raising tree canopies—work that is crucial to keeping the park safe and accessible.

“Thanks to their efforts, the park looks its best and is ready to welcome the community,” Schultz added. “Every volunteer who showed up contributed to a cleaner, more inviting space for everyone to enjoy.”

In addition to outdoor work, interns also spent time with young students at the Boys & Girls Club of East Williamson County. There, they served as positive role models for kids between the ages of five and 13.

“They are great role models for our club members,” Gerald Walker, site director for the Club, said. “The kids enjoy playing games and sharing laughs with the TISD students.”

At Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry, students organized pallets of food and packed bags for distribution at a later date.

Samsung Austin Semiconductor’s internship program not only gives students a chance to learn about the semiconductor manufacturing industry, it empowers interns to be active members of their community, developing both professional and personal skills along the way.

“The opportunity to help those around me has given me the courage to inspire the future generation,” intern Ava Zuno said.

Whether they're clearing trails, organizing donations or simply playing tag with younger students, Taylor ISD interns continue to make a difference, one project at a time.
