Samsung Semiconductor Hosts 2nd 'Samsung Supplier Sustainability Summit': Leading Continuous Cooperation to Build a Sustainable Semiconductor Supply Chain

Samsung Semiconductor held the 'Samsung Supplier Sustainability Summit' in Tokyo, Japan on May 29th to discuss cooperation plans with local Japanese partners to build a sustainable supply chain. This event is significant as it is the second following the one held in September of last year, and the first to be held overseas. Approximately 110 people from 40 major Japanese partner companies attended the event, showing high interests in semiconductor supply chain sustainability cooperation.

□ Emphasizing Broad Collaboration for Building a Sustainable Supply Chain

In her opening speech, Jina Park, Executive Vice President of Samsung Semiconductor Purchasing team, welcomed the attendance of major Japanese partner companies, emphasized the need to build a stable and sustainable supply chain in the semiconductor industry, and stated that Samsung Semiconductor will work closely with its partners. Following this, Bo-ram Lee, VP of Samsung Semiconductor Sustainability Office, introduced the sustainability strategies and mentioned the need for cooperation with partners on risks such as carbon reduction, environmental regulations, and responsible sourcing. The morning session concluded with presentations from partner companies.

□  A Sustainable Future is Possible Through Collaboration, Not Competition

The afternoon session began with a keynote speech by Sam-jong Choi, VP of Samsung Semiconductor Material Technology team, mentioned the increasing instability factors in the supply chain management of raw materials due to such risks as wars, tariffs, natural disasters, and export restrictions, and introduced a material recycling supply chain management ecosystem to overcome these challenges. Subsequently, partner companies continued their presentations on various topics such as Net-Zero, PCF*, PFAS*, and semiconductor water recycling. In-ho Nam, VP of Samsung Semiconductor Material Procurement group, emphasized that sustainability is not a concept of competition but of mutual cooperation and symbiosis.

While sharing their efforts and excellent success cases in conduction of a sustainable semiconductor supply chain, attended partner companies expressed their appreciation and positive future expectations to the visions and efforts of Samsung.

Samsung Semiconductor plans to continue contributing to enhancing the sustainability of the semiconductor industry through close cooperation with its partners.
