To promote workplace safety, Samsung Semiconductor has been providing record-level financial incentives to partners for over a decade, with the total amount reaching KRW 380 billion from 2010 to 2020. The incentives for the first half of 2020 came to KRW 36.53 billion and were given in the form of bonuses to 23,000 employees at our 297 partners for reaching productivity and safety goals.
This is a sign of how much we value safety and how dedicated we are to creating a culture of workplace safety. In addition to financial incentives, we also run a program called Pace Maker.
Launched in 2020, the Pace Maker program operates as a joint consultative body consisting of Pace Makers selected from our top partners.
The program aims to empower them in developing sustainable safety cultures and to support their efforts in raising the safety awareness standards at fellow partner sites. The top five partners selected as Pace Makers for the first year were Edwards Korea, Doowon ENG, Baeksan ENG, Clean Factomation and Hanyang Tech & Service.

Because all the Pace Makers share Samsung Semiconductor’s safety values and understand the importance of safety management, they are able to actively motivate other Samsung Semiconductor partners to build an effective safety culture. In addition to working with our partners, we also held a Risk Foresight Competition as part of the Pace Maker program.
The Risk Foresight Competition sought to help our partners develop risk foresight and planning capabilities, and finalists from each field gathered at Samsung Semiconductor’s Environmental Safety Academy to compete in five areas including risk identification and problem-solving capabilities. The top three teams were awarded a certificate and a cash prize. Samsung Semiconductor is the first private company to hold such a competition and has received accolades for using the competition format as an effective way to train partner employees on safety management.
Samsung Semiconductor will continue to work on building safety-related capabilities among Samsung employees and partner employees, as well as develop effective and engaging ways to carry out environmental safety training at partner sites.
