From the moment you wake up and check your phone to watch videos right before bed, everything you do needs chips — and to make these chips, you need energy.

What kind of energy? Instead of fossil fuels, Samsung uses renewable energy when making our chips. Renewable energy is energy that can be used over and over without creating pollution, like sunlight and wind. Our focus on renewable energy sources helps to keep our future looking bright.

We ensure our sites
worldwide use
100% renewable energy,

keeping our pledge
to sustainable

*As of 2023

Starting with our US and Chinese business sites that were converted to 100% renewable energy since 2020, we aim to contribute to reducing Scope 2 emissions from electricity use by expanding the use of renewable energy across all of our global business sites by 2050 through forming new PPAs. The DS Division's domestic business sites signed a PPA with SK E&S in November 2023 and Samsung C&T in March 2024 to procure approximately 76.2GWh of renewable energy power annually from 60MW solar power plants starting in 2025, receiving approximately 1,466GWh* in total over the next 20 years.

* With consideration of reduction in annual guaranteed supply due to solar panel deterioration

Greenhouse gas reduction due to the expansion of renewable energy

This was achieved through various projects such as developing innovative technologies to reduce carbon and building a diverse portfolio to secure renewable energy. Samsung Semiconductor will continue to reduce the energy used in the semiconductor manufacturing process and contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases.
