At Samsung Semiconductor, we created a simple way for employees to give back to the local community — the Donation Kiosk. All they have to do is tap the Kiosk with their employee ID card, and 1,000 won is deducted from their salary and donated to children and teenagers in need. The kiosks are placed near building entrances, making them accessible for employees to donate with a tap as they come and go through the doors. The first kiosks were available only on Hwaseong Campus. With the amount being small and donating so easy, employees were more than happy to take part and were soon asking for the Donation Kiosks to be available on other campuses as well. Thanks to the employees, the kiosks can now be found on all Samsung Semiconductor campuses in Korea.

This shows the power of what a simple 1,000 won can do. With the Donation Kiosks, a culture of giving spread organically throughout Samsung Semiconductor and created waves of the positive impact that reached local communities.

Children who have received donations from Samsung Semiconductor employees through the donation kiosk have sent in letters to say thank you. The letters when put together form the word thank you in Korean

The Donation Kiosks that had generated a wave of giving throughout Samsung Semiconductor campuses were also a way for employees
to learn about the children and teenagers they were supporting.

On Giheong Campus, employees learned about Min-gi who has an intellectual disability through the kiosk displays. The Donation Kiosk screens on Hwaseong Campus told the stories of Shijin, a single mother raising four children alone, and young Yeseul who was the sole guardian of her two little brothers. Every month, new stories of the donation beneficiaries are being shared with employees through the kiosk displays, letting employees know how their donations are being used and what kind of impact their generosity has on the community.

The reason why
we share the
stories of the
beneficiaries

“It’s rewarding to learn that
our
donations are making a difference!
I tag the kiosk displays every day, and
whenever I do,
it makes me feel good.
I hope the Donation Kiosks continue
for a
long time!”

Eo Jun, Samsung Semiconductor employee

“I hope the kiosks will be available
even
after COVID-19.
They’re so easy to use and it’s great to
learn about the children we’re helping.
Thank you!”

Jeong Yoojeong,
Samsung Semiconductor employee

By seeing the stories on the kiosk displays, employees were able to see the kind of impact their small
donations had on the children and were able to feel a connection with them. The stories also motivated more employees to donate and helped create an emotional bond among those who had participated in the campaign.

The Donation Kiosks at Samsung Semiconductor show how small acts of kindness can bring big change.
It was the kiosks at Hwaseong Campus that sparked a culture of giving that spread organically through Samsung Semiconductor. We hope this culture continues to spread and goes beyond our campuses to reach as many people as possible.
