Machine learning is an area of artificial intelligence and an important keyword of the Quaternary Industrial Revolution. Machine learning is a technology by which a machine gathers and analyzes empirical data to improve its own performance. While machines normally only perform programmed commands, machine learning ‘learns’ attributes based on vast amounts of data, and makes decisions or predictions. Machine learning has applications across various industries. For example, machine learning can be taught to recognize faces of people in photographs. Facial recognition systems can be trained to identify the face of a specific person by uploading multiple images of the same person. In another example, diagnosis systems analyze medical knowledge, patient background, and medical certificates to propose optimal diagnoses and therapeutic methods. So then, what is the role of semiconductors in machine learning? For machines to retrieve information and learn like a human brain, the high performance computing (HPC) to store and quickly process large volumes of data is crucial. Therefore, the performance of semiconductors, which are key devices for storing and processing information, is expected to play a key role in the progress of this machine learning market.
