This project will construct a four-lane road to reduce curves on CR 404 and increase safety. The roadway will connect FM 3349 to FM 973. The interim roadway will be completed in segments.
CR 401/US 79 This project was completed this summer. It ties CR 401 into US 79 and expands the existing two-lane CR 401 to a four-lane roadway to provide more vehicle capacity. The project also includes plans for installing a traffic signal at the intersection. The picture above was from spring 2023. East WilCo Highway Once complete, the East WilCo Highway will connect SH 130 to Highway 79 between Hutto and Taylor, bringing relief to traffic on Highway 79 in this fast-growing area of Williamson County. Construction of Segment 1 of the East WilCo Highway began in summer 2021 and was completed this month. This segment is now a new road with one lane in each direction and a center turn lane from CR 138 at Dana Drive to CR 137. The $13.6 million cost for this segment was funded through the voter-approved 2019 Road Bond. Segment 3 of the East WilCo Highway from FM 3349 north to US 70 is currently under construction. This segment includes a bridge over US 79 and the Union Pacific Railroad. The project is estimated to be completed in summer 2025. Segment 2 is the link between these projects and is included in proposed projects for the Nov. 7 bond election. As a reminder, if you're driving through a construction zone, make sure you slow down or move over, it's the law. The law requires drivers to move over a lane or slow to 20 mph below the posted speed limit.
