During October, Samsung Austin Semiconductor employees volunteered nearly 1,000 hours as part of our Month of Service. From beautifying parks to giving blood, our employees have donated their time and energy to making a meaningful impact in the community. Sonja Berger, an engineer on our Innovation Equipment team, organized a volunteer opportunity for her team at the Thinkery. They helped prepare the children's museum for their annual Spark After Dark event. "We helped by creating hanging decorations for the event, preparing giveaways and arranging activities for the children to complete," Berger said. "Since the entire team is made up of engineers, I enjoyed that we could take time off to give back to the next generation of (hopefully) engineers." In Taylor, more than three dozen employees spent the day upgrading Bull Branch Park. They built walkways, painted railings and picked up litter. One of our newest employee resource groups, the Black Employee Network, volunteered at the Central Texas Food Bank where they inspected, sorted and prepared boxes of food for the local community. “The Black Employee Network was proud to be a part of this essential event and we look forward to establishing relationships with other local charities,” Black Employee Network co-chair La Toya Morrison said. Employees also helped with the 10th annual Samsung STEM Challenge with the Girl Scouts of Central Texas. This event was a fun one since it took place during the annual solar eclipse on Oct. 14. The Girl Scouts participated in a series of eclipse-related problem-solving scenarios before watching the eclipse. “As a longtime supporter of Girl Scouts of Central Texas and the annual STEM Challenge, we want to provide girls with more opportunities to see themselves in STEM fields, which ultimately gives them an opportunity to have an impact on the world,” said community affairs specialist, Wesley King, who spoke at the event. As part of our We Chip In initiative, we empower and encourage our employees to give back to the organizations that speak to them. Our employees receive up to 16 hours of paid Volunteer Time Off every year.
