The Future, Faster: Samsung Begins Sampling Industry’s First 24Gbps GDDR6 to Power the Next Generation of Graphics Cards

Technology advances primarily in one of two ways: getting smaller or getting faster. Samsung’s newest graphics technology has no problem outpacing the previous generation. The first-of-its-kind 16-gigabit (Gb) Graphics Double Data Rate 6 (GDDR6) DRAM featuring 24-gigabit-per-second (Gbps) processing speeds is 30% faster than previous offerings. The chip incorporates an innovative circuit design and advanced insulation that minimizes current leakage to deliver the technology capable of enabling next-level graphics processing power.
For context on just how fast the 24Gbps GDDR6 can be, think about this: When integrated into a premium graphics card, it can transfer up to 1.1-terabytes (TB) of data, or about 275 Full HD movies, in just one second.

This includes the ability to extend from graphics-intensive applications like HPC, autonomous driving and electric cars to gaming and casual viewing. Addressing these emerging markets, Samsung’s GDDR6 will be able to do things such as enable seamless 4K and 8K video playback, all while supporting demanding AI accelerator workloads. With Samsung’s 24Gbps GDDR6 and full GDDR6 lineup, graphics processing will be able to reach a new level, one where a faster future is possible.
