Mobile ray tracing
that turns heads

Ray tracing is a graphics technology that traces the paths of light rays to simulate the reflections, refractions, and shadows of digital images or videos more accurately. The enhanced levels of realism it brings to in-game graphics has made it an increasingly important part of the mobile gaming experience.

Reflection rendering with Exynos ray tracing technology simulates realistic reflections on surfaces like glass and water.

Shadow

Reflection rendering is a technique for expressing light reflections in a way that is similar to reality. The benefits of ray tracing are particularly noticeable in high-resolution dynamic reflective surfaces like water and mirrors. Users can encounter these settings in mobile games for more true-to-life experiences.

A key feature of ray tracing is Global Illumination, a rendering technique that computes direct, indirect, and natural light — including light reflected from surfaces. The presence of multi-bounce indirect light helps to create in-game scenes that are more realistic than ever.

Ray-traced shadows ensure a significant upgrade in graphics quality by differentiating between hard shadows near the object and softer shadows at greater distance. Hardware-based ray tracing also simplifies lighting design, allowing for smooth adaption to differing resolutions and composition.

performance

The Exynos 2400 uses the Xclipse 940 GPU built on the AMD RDNA™ 3 architecture, which delivers significant performance improvements over its predecessor. AMD RDNA™ 3 brings increased performance and enhanced mobile power efficiency, while also introducing second-generation ray tracing accelerators for more realistic graphics. This means Samsung’s ongoing collaboration with AMD will provide mobile gamers with high-performance, beautiful visuals, and long gaming experiences in the games of today and tomorrow.

Mobile gaming ecosystem,
expanded

Samsung has established first-runner status with the Exynos 2200 being the first smartphone chipset to offer hardware-based ray tracing. With upgrades and improvements, the Xclipse GPU offers console graphic features like variable rate shading, immediate mode rendering, and super resolution functions including FidelityFX Super Resolution. In addition to gaming innovations, Samsung has been working with ExecuTorch, an on-device AI project developed by the PyTorch team at Meta, to optimize machine learning model execution on the Exynos GPU through the Vulkan delegate, ensuring high-performance and efficient AI processing on-device. We are also working closely with game developers to simultaneously launch new titles on mobile along with PC and console.

This advance in game development signifies a new era for mobile gaming, in which developers are able to make games more efficiently and bring ultra-realistic graphics to mobile gamers. As such, Exynos is expanding collaboration in the mobile gaming ecosystem — including in both hardware and software — to further establish itself as a central figure in the industry.
