Samsung Semiconductor's Musculoskeletal Prevention Center.

At Samsung Semiconductor, we offer a variety of programs for employee health, including regular health checkups, infectious disease prevention and management and musculoskeletal disorder prevention. We run health management programs for employees with chronic illnesses such as obesity and high blood pressure, including personal training at our fitness center, musculoskeletal exercise and specialized treatment.

We also have personalized health programs for employees at risk of diabetes: they can keep track of their levels with wearable blood glucose monitoring devices and are offered regular one-on-one consultations with doctors who provide guidance in improving lifestyle habits and advise on medicine. In addition to all Samsung Semiconductor sites being non-smoking zones, there are smoking cessation clinics for employees looking to quit smoking. The centers offer counseling and smoking cessation products to help the process. On-site fitness centers and swimming pools are available for employees to get exercise on a regular basis.

High-tech facilities guide
employee health

We run an exercise center to help our employees prevent musculoskeletal disorders and improve their physical strength. In addition to discovering musculoskeletal problems that may affect employees working in production lines and workplaces, tests are conducted to help prevent muscle and bone diseases. In our Fitness Center for the Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders, we help assess body balance, 3-D body shape measurements and condition and provide one-on-one consultations for customized exercise programs.

The center also conducts ergonomic risk assessments to identify potential issues in the workplace and help prevent muscle and bone disorders. We use back mapping, which helps correct spinal misalignments due to bad posture and habits, and biofeedback, which is a technique that helps you gain greater awareness of your body — allowing you to you control physiological functions including heart rate, muscle tension, breathing, sweating, skin temperature, blood temperature and brain waves.

The lobby of Samsung Semiconductor's Open Counseling Center.

At Samsung Semiconductor, we have counseling centers offering services to employees who are under stress. Employees can visit the Counselling Center or the mental health clinic any time during working hours. Both facilities have a wide range of online and offline programs such as meditation, body scan meditation and breathing meditation for employees to release tension and to clear their minds.

Creating a safe workplace
even during the COVID-19 pandemic

Samsung Semiconductor was the first company in Korea to set up on-site COVID-19 testing facilities for employees to get tested swiftly and easily. A worksite entrance process was also set up to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The procedure is as follows:

First, employees and visitors answer a series of questions on their smartphones to determine whether there are any high-risk individuals or anyone who has visited high-risk facilities. Those who show symptoms are then asked to go to the on-site testing facility, and those who have visited high-risk facilities are asked to work from home. Thermal cameras and non-contact thermometers are also placed near site entrances to help prevent employees from getting infected.
