Our monthly
blood drives are
an important
part of
what
we do

Samsung Semiconductor has been carrying out a wide range of social responsibility initiatives to support our local communities. To encourage participation, we have been running programs such as Love Run, Love Walk and Donation Kiosk to make donating a part of daily life and create a culture of giving at Samsung Semiconductor.
We have also been holding regular blood drives since 1995 and have continued to hold them despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Every month, Samsung Semiconductor employees on Giheung, Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek, Onyang, and Cheonan campuses and at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology have been donating blood as well as their blood donor cards to save the lives of others.

We are also the first in Korea to create a
“Blood Donor Card Bank” that saves donor cards for urgent blood transfusions that are needed whether it’s by our employees, their families or the local community.

After giving blood, employees earn blood donor cards and we wanted to provide a way to ensure the donor cards were used for a good cause — and be available when needed. In 1995, we set up the Blood Donor Card Bank program. Employees would donate the donor cards they earned during our regular blood drives. We would keep them safe in the Blood Donor Card Bank, and when they’re needed, swiftly deliver the cards to those in need of transfusions. The Bank is open to Samsung Semiconductor employees, their families and those in need in the local area.

The Blood Donor Card Bank program ensured that those in need of urgent blood transfusions would get swift treatment and offered its services to the local community as well as employees and their families.

“My mother cried, and the rest
of
my family cried with her.
Words can’t express our
gratitude to
all of you who
have graciously
donated your
blood to my family.
I truly
cannot thank you enough.”

- Excerpt from a post on the
Samsung Semiconductor Intranet

An employee posted a message on
the
Samsung Semiconductor Intranet. At the time, her
mother was suffering from a malignant form of
advanced-stage lymphoma and required an urgent
blood transfusion.

She was desperate and as a last
resort, she turned to
the Blood Donor Card Bank where blood donations
could also be requested to be made to specific people.
In response,
Samsung Semiconductor employees came
together, literally rolling up
their sleeves to help her.

“I can’t even begin to fathom
the
magnitude of the huge
favor
I’ve been given by such
good people.
And to think that
I work at the same
company
as these people.

I promise to repay the
kindness by
helping other
people in need.”

Samsung Semiconductor Intranet

The message posted on the Intranet was full of
gratitude for the people who generously donated
their blood.

Giving blood may be a small act of kindness but it has
the power to save lives and we know that when our
actions come together, they can save our families,
our colleagues,
their families and ultimately the society
at large.

Samsung Semiconductor
will continue to
offer
support
to all the
compassionate
employees
who willingly
donate blood
every
month,

and will continue
to run
and
develop blood
donation
programs
that build a positive
and lasting culture of
blood donation.
