NAND Flash Memory

  • mail
NAND Flash Memory A type of flash memory where the semiconductor’s cells are aligned vertically. Flash memory can be classified based on the electrical circuit alignment within the semiconductor chip. That with a vertical alignment is called NAND flash, while that with a horizontal alignment is called NOR flash. It is easier to increase the storage capacity of NAND flash and is faster in writing data, while NOR flash is better at reading data faster. NAND flash aligns memory cells vertically, which makes mass storage possible in a small space by stacking the cells. Furthermore, it locates data orderly, so it reads data slower than NOR flash. However, its data-recording speed is much faster than that of NOR flash as it does not need to remember each cell’s location. Therefore, as mass storage is made possible with NAND flash, it is used as the storage device for various mobile devices and electronics.
