Samsung is reducing the environmental impact of every part of the chip manufacturing process — from the purchase of raw materials, development, production and distribution to use and disposal. We study our use of energy and resources and the harmfulness of parts and raw materials in order to minimize our ecological footprint.

We closely manage all sorts of materials when creating our eco-friendly chips, from raw silicon wafers to PCB in-circuit packaging and even shipping materials — ensuring our compliance with international environmental regulations.

  • Samsung is in compliance with REACH regulations.

    The registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals (REACH) were established in the E.U. ((EC) No 1907/2006) to ensure information is clearly communicated down the supply chain. This way, suppliers can relay accurate information for consumers to use the product safely — especially for information about
    substances of very high concern (SVHC).

    These are our obligations according to REACH Article 33:

    If a product contains more than 0.1% of an SVHC, we must provide enough information for
    the safe use of the product by the recipient, at minimum the name of the substance.

    If a product contains an SVHC, we must provide this information to the recipient. “Recipient” does not refer to the consumer, but rather to the industry, professionals, and distributors.

    If a consumer requests information about SVHCs, we must provide this information for free within 45 days.

  • Samsung’s chips
    were declared halogen free.

    Halogens such as chlorine (Cl) and bromine (Br) are mainly used in electronics as flame retardants. When incinerated at low temperatures, it can produce highly toxic byproducts like dioxin and furan. We now develop all new products in accordance with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) definition of “halogen-free”.
