In 2020, Austin Semiconductor’s economic impact on Central Texas totaled over $4.5 billion, supporting nearly 10,000 jobs and producing more than $468 million in salaries. Now after 26 years of investing in the people, technology, and growth of Texas, we’re betting on an even brighter future together.
The new facility we’re building in Taylor, Texas is an extension of our ongoing commitment. Each new manufacturing facility we build helps us develop technologies that will unlock the experiences of tomorrow, and allows us to make a difference in peoples’ lives today.
We believe the new site in Taylor will bridge our 26-year history in Central Texas with a hopeful future full of possibilities. Bringing new jobs and valuable training opportunities, our investment in Taylor – Samsung’s largest-ever in the U.S. – will build supply chain resilience of crucial logic chips while contributing to the development of the local community.
What makes the Taylor project so exciting is its potential to positively impact the lives of people around the world and in its own backyard.
Set to break ground in 2022 with the goal of launching operations in 2024, our Taylor facility will boost the production of semiconductor solutions that will power next-generation technologies in areas like 5G, artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC). With greater manufacturing capacity, we will be able to better serve the needs of our customers and contribute to the stability of the global semiconductor supply chain.
For Taylor, located less than 30 minutes from the Texas state capital of Austin, our investment will bring thousands of new jobs and valuable training. Together with our existing manufacturing site in Austin, the facility will allow us to open up exciting opportunities for Central Texans for years to come.
Samsung Austin Semiconductor understands the importance of being a good corporate neighbor. As such, we will work with our actual neighbors, partners, elected officials and the Taylor community to create an environment where we can all grow and thrive.

Just as semiconductors are essential to enabling the technologies of tomorrow, nurturing potential is an essential part of building a brighter future for the next generation. This is why, in addition to creating thousands of jobs, Samsung Austin Semiconductor is contributing to the development of programs designed to foster young people’s growth.
As part of our investment in Taylor, Samsung Austin Semiconductor will donate funds to create a Samsung Skills Center for the Taylor Independent School District. The center will help students in the community develop valuable skills for future careers, and will also provide internships and recruiting opportunities.
Samsung Austin Semiconductor will also be launching an internship program for Taylor High School students in the summer of 2022. We will hire a minimum of 24 seniors who will work for six weeks at either the Samsung Taylor construction site or our Austin manufacturing facility.
As Samsung celebrates more than 26 years of manufacturing in the U.S., this investment in Taylor underlines just how much Samsung Austin Semiconductor values the community we call home. By planting seeds of opportunity in Texas, Samsung Austin Semiconductor is laying the foundation for a more prosperous future.
Let’s take a moment to put the sheer size of this investment in perspective. Since 1996, Samsung has invested $18 billion in total for the Austin site. Samsung plans to invest a minimum of $17 billion in this build-out – $6 billion in buildings and other real property improvements, and $11 billion in machinery and equipment.
The economic impact for Taylor and Williamson County will be substantial. For reference, Samsung Austin Semiconductor had a $6.3 billion total economic impact in Central Texas in 2021, supporting nearly 10,000 jobs and producing more than $546 million in salaries. This additional investment in the region will multiply that.
These incentives will boost city and county funds, producing long-term benefits for the community and positive implications for Taylor’s overall development. The purchasing of goods and services from businesses and individuals in Taylor will further boost the area’s economic development.
The key to our success at Samsung Austin Semiconductor lies in the talent, creativity and dedication of our people. Their commitment to creating innovative products and solutions is what drives us forward and leads to the advancements that change the industry. It’s also one of the core ways we’re focused on giving back to Texas and its people, by developing their skills in working with some of the world’s most advanced technologies.
Each expansion of our manufacturing capabilities creates opportunities to add even more talented individuals to our incredible team. Our Taylor facility is expected to directly create more than 2,000 high-tech jobs, creating opportunities for people with GEDs to PhDs. Positions will range from entry-level technicians to engineers and will include plenty of upskilling opportunities.
The ripples from the facility construction will also extend to other sectors, helping create thousands of well-paying positions for contractors and union organizations during the construction. We also expect our partners and vendors to expand their workforce. Once the site is operational, Samsung Austin Semiconductor will create contracts with a security company, janitorial staff, cafeteria workers and more to help manage the facility.
We believe there will be new opportunities for people of all backgrounds. This project is poised to be a transformative moment for the community that will help lift boats across the region – something we take great pride in any time we open a new facility or expand operations.
