  • mail
Smart Card A semiconductor integrated circuit (IC) with various functions embedded in a plastic card. A smart card refers to a form in which a semiconductor chip with various functions such as a microprocessor (CPU), memory storage or OS is inserted into a plastic card that looks like a credit card. A smart card is also called a chip card or IC card, and has advantages over conventional magnetic strip cards including the ability to store a large amount of data, more functionality, and better stability. Smart cards are categorized into two types, contact and non-contact. Contact type smart cards are used by contacting the metal pattern on the cards with a terminal of a device, and non-contact smart cards are able to exchange data at a close range without touching the device.
