Wavelength The distance that a periodic wave such as a sound wave or an electronic wave moves in a single period. In LEDs, the optimal wavelength can be achieved depending on the compound materials, and different colors are expressed in accordance with this. In general, group III and V materials with a band gap (difference in energy levels) are compounded, and this difference determines the wavelength and the color of light. If the difference in energy is great, purple light of a short-wavelength is emitted, and if the difference in energy is small, red light of a long-wavelength is emitted.
