3D V-NAND Flash Memory (3D Vertical NAND flash memory) A type of NAND flash memory where cells conventionally arrayed in a single layer are stacked vertically in three dimensions. 3D V-NAND flash is a technology developed to overcome limitations in scaling previous 2D NAND flash processes. By adopting the state-of-the-art 10nm processes, the space between neighboring cells becomes smaller. This results in increased interference due to leakage of electrons. To overcome this problem, an innovative structure where traditionally single-layer cells are stacked vertically in three dimensions was developed. 3D V-NAND flash overcomes physical limitations of the conventional technology, improving cell characteristics by drastically reducing interference between cells. Memory speed, life and power efficiency are also drastically improved compared to the previous 2D NAND flash memory.
