PCI Express (PCIe, Peripheral Component Interconnect-Express) An interface standard that overcame the data-transfer-per-second limit from the existing SATA interface. It is a serial transmission interface set by PCI SIG in 2002 and is the next-generation interface after PATA and SATA. The data transfer speed for a SATA interface is 600MB/s today, but a PCIe interface can transfer data much quicker at 3GB/s.
