Next Level Performance As a leader of mobile processor industry, Samsung has continuously found a new breakthrough ways to improve processing power. The Samsung Exynos processor has always and still is at the forefront in the industry with superb technologies for computing power such as an octa-core CPU, big.LITTLE HMP processing, and 64-bit computing. Even with such innovations, Samsung needed to go further to fully support the new kind of complex mobile experiences that have begun to surface with the advancements in mobile devices. While the industry struggles to go forward, Samsung redesigned the CPU from scratch to provide a differentiated value. Driven by the desire to innovate, Samsung developed its first custom CPU based on the ARMv8 ISA (Instruction Set Architecture) in 2015. Designed and built from scratch, the processing power and efficiency of the custom CPU in Exynos 8 Octa (8890) was a significant step up from previous offerings in its predecessor, the Exynos 7420. The vastly enhanced micro-architecture provided Exynos 8890 over 30% improvement in performance. The bar was raised even higher when the 2nd generation custom core, which included an improved IP and architectural design, was unveiled with the launch of the Exynos 9 Series (8895) processor. The exceptional designs of the 1st and 2nd generation custom CPU cores provided the foundation for the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 to redefine the smartphone experience. The release of Exynos 9810 ushers in a new chapter in Samsung’s development of custom CPUs. Four 3rd generation custom CPUs running at 2.9GHz power the company’s latest flagship processor alongside a quartet of 1.9GHz Cortex-A55 cores. Calibrated with a wider pipeline and improved cache memory, all aspects of the latest custom core are fine-tuned to deliver exceptional performance. Compared to Exynos 8895, Exynos 9810’s single-core performance is twice as fast, while its multi-core performance is enhanced by 40%. This allows the CPU to launch complex apps at the blink of an eye and transition seamlessly between them, freeing up time and energy for users to accomplish more.

More Power, Less Energy It’s all well and good to maximize CPU performance, but this also leads to the problem of greater power consumption. One of the biggest challenges in designing mobile processors is how to improve both at the same time. Samsung has achieved the perfect balance between performance and power efficiency with Exynos 9810. It is built to achieve optimal efficiency to improve battery life between charges. Low power microarchitecture design is one of the key innovations which makes the custom CPU less power-hungry. Featuring aggressive clock gating, it can switch off circuits to reduce power dissipation and improve energy conservation. In addition, the microarchitecture is also crafted to minimize unnecessary switching and data transfer. The 2nd generation 10nm FinFET process is another technological breakthrough which allows Exynos 9810 to consume less energy without compromising its performance. This cutting-edge development reduces power consumption by up to 15% compared to the 1st generation 10nm process technology. Deep Learning But speed and power efficiency are not all that Exynos 9810 offers. As smartphones and mobile devices are increasingly tasked to solve complex problems, processors are expected to be more capable than ever before. Exynos 9810 is designed to meet demands for new mobile experiences. Equipped with neural network-based deep learning software, which enables the processor to identify objects, the Exynos 9810 can accurately recognize and categorize items and faces in photos. Through depth sensing, the technology is also capable of scanning faces in 3D for hybrid face detection. Best-in-Class Processor Faster, smarter, and more efficient, Exynos 9810 is Samsung’s most powerful mobile processor yet. Much like its predecessors, the CPU has continued the tradition of the Exynos 9 Series by pushing the boundaries of mobile technology.
