Supporting our veterans and military members is something Samsung Austin Semiconductor is committed to day in and day out. One supervisor, Tom Schultz, was recently awarded the Patriot Award from the Texas Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) for his efforts in making the workplace a welcoming one for employees serving in the National Guard or Reserve. ESGR, a Department of Defense office, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers. Schultz, a veteran himself, was nominated for the Patriot Award by his colleague, Zachary Posmoga.

“Tom has been real welcoming and supportive of my Navy Reserve duty as well as being a good representative of Samsung Austin Semiconductor leadership and company values,” Posmoga wrote in his nomination. “I’d like to share my gratitude to Samsung's support of veterans and Tom's support as a good people manager in the Infra Electrical - Taylor Project.” Prior to joining Samsung Austin Semiconductor on the Infra Electrical team in Taylor, Schultz served 20 years with the U.S. Navy as a nuclear electrician chief on submarines. Whether it’s on a submarine or at the Taylor construction site, Schultz “has a knack for detail and is a mentor for a department of 60—keeping everyone safe and sane,” added Posmoga. “I am very honored to be given the award,” Schultz said. “Taking care of my servicemen and women is something I've focused on as far back as 2009 when I was promoted to Chief Petty Officer.” With approximately 10 percent of our workforce self-identifying as veterans, Samsung Austin Semiconductor is a designated We Hire Vets company by the State of Texas and a HIRE Vets company by the U.S. Department of Labor.
