In observance of Veterans Day, Samsung Austin Semiconductor held a ceremony to honor our veterans on staff and celebrate our recent designation as a HIRE Vets Medallion Award recipient from the U.S. Department of Labor. Manor New Tech High School's Special Operations Group, led by teacher Alfred Silva, a 23-year veteran of the Army, assisted us with the Posting of the Colors followed by the national anthem, which was sung by our employee, Rebecca Swafford. "As an Army veteran myself, I understand the personal sacrifice made by those who have served," Jon Taylor, vice president of Fab Engineering and Public Affairs at Samsung Austin Semiconductor, said. "At Samsung Austin Semiconductor, we are committed to hiring veterans and during the past year have taken significant steps through our 5-Star workforce development plan to keep that commitment. "

The gold HIRE Vets Medallion Award acknowledges our commitment to hiring veterans, but also ensuring that they have a long-term career and growth plan that uses the diverse skills they acquired through their military service. Along with the HIRE Vets designation, Samsung Austin Semiconductor is also a We Hire Vets company with the State of Texas. Mike Atencio, chair of our Military Appreciation Group, talked about how he's been attending career fairs at Fort Cavazos to encourage veterans to consider a career with Samsung Austin Semiconductor after they retire from the military. "Attending these events allows us to engage and connect with military members who are looking for a career once they transition to civilian life," Atencio said. Since the beginning of the year, Samsung Austin Semiconductor has attended five career fairs at Fort Cavazos and hosted nine information sessions. We also launched a new 12-week Army Career Skills Program where interns receive training and work experience that prepares them for equipment technician roles within the organization. As a special thank-you gift to our veterans, we handed out special dog tags emblazoned with their military branch logo. To end the holiday weekend, more than six dozen Military Appreciation Group members hit the ice rink to watch the Texas Stars play as part of Military Appreciation night. To the 600-plus veterans on our staff, we salute you and appreciate your service.
