Love Run was a Samsung Semiconductor festival held every spring and fall. But in 2020 as part of our efforts to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and practice social distancing, we turned Love Run into Love Walk.
Love Run was a campaign to run around the Samsung Nano City
Campus as a group to stay in shape and to donate to a good
cause. As part of our vision “Together for Tomorrow! Enabling
People,” this social commitment activity soon became a Samsung
Semiconductor tradition. It started in 1998, and by the time
the event was turned into the contactless Love Walk in 2020,
there were 1
million people
participating.
- Yoo Dosik, Mugungwha Electronics
When Dosik is not working at Mugungwha Electronics, he’s the
company basketball player-coach.
The manual wheelchair he
had to rely on before, made it
difficult to
play
since he
had to use his arms to control the wheelchair. With his new
motorized wheelchair, he’s now able
to play the game freely on the
court.
- Lee Dahye, college student
When she was 7 years old, Dahye was diagnosed with Myotonic
Dystrophy.
It
wasn’t easy for her to keep her
balance and with her manual wheelchair, she had to
have someone push her around. With
the custom motorized wheelchair, she’s now
able to move around by herself.
- Kim Youngkwon, Memory Semiconductor Equipment Innovation
- Hur Wonki, Semiconductor Material Development
We at Samsung Semiconductor plan
to continue to
walk for a cause
and give back to the local
communities with the steps we take
together.

In 2020, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we
changed the annual Love Run to Love
Walk. Love Walk is a new way of
giving back to society, donating the steps we take when we
go on
walks as well as when we walk to
and back from work. When we reach our step goal within two
weeks, the steps are converted into money for charity. The
money is donated to those in need around the Hwaseong,
Yongin, Pyeongtaek, and Asan areas where Samsung
Semiconductor campuses are located.
Our donations have provided mobility aids to those with mobility disabilities and provided support to multicultural families in need. Since 2020, we have expanded our support to include those hit hard by COVID-19 as well.
Love Run was born in 1998 during the difficult period of the global financial crisis, and this year in 2021, celebrates its 45th event. As Samsung Semiconductor has continued to give back to society over the past 22 years through these charity events, we take a look back at how our donations have made a difference, from the first Love Run that raised money for children in need to Love Walk that donates to persons with physical and mobility impairments.

In 2021, through the 45th Love Walk, we were able to donate custom mobility aids to 46 people. We firmly believe that when taken together, our small steps can become a big step toward a better future, and that’s why we will continue to carry on the campaign.
