Samsung Electronics Succeeded in Obtaining Niche Market in the Memory Industry.

  • mail
- Graphic memory capture 35% of the world market share this year - Accelerate market domination by introducing the first sample of the 32M Synchronous Graphic RAM - Expected to lead the 16M, 32M graphic memory market in 1999 as well Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., dominates the graphic memory market by aggressively capturing its niche market with product diversification. It is expected that Samsung Electronics will capture 35% of the world graphic memory market and earn $500 million, making it the successful case of capturing the memory niche market. The computer environment for graphic memory has swiftly switched to the multi-media one with DVD, FAX, modem, audio, video, etc, which resulted into rising demand for memory chips with more capacity and higher performance. Samsung Electronics succeeded in getting the market first by introducing products on time by forecasting correctly when there will be a demand for the high speed memories whose added value is more than twice that of the DRAM. In particular, by producing the sample of the 32M Synchronous Graphic RAM, which is being evaluated as providing the most optimal graphic environment for the computer, Samsung Electronics is likely to firm its market dominance. The 32M Synchronous Graphic RAM (SGRAM) is a graphic exclusive memory which provides a perfect 3D graphic environment by producing graphic images at a fast transportation speed (maximum: 166MHz) for several graphic specific controllers. This product will dominate the graphic RAM market in 1999 following the footstep of 8M, 16M SGRAM since it can be applied to the high-performance PC and commercial PCs and it was adopted as standard by the standardization organization for semiconductor products, Joint Electronic Engineering Council. It is expected that the large capacity graphic memory market will rapidly grow to reach 1.5 billion dollar in 1999 and 2 billion dollar in 2000 while the market for the 32M SGRAM will be formed in 1999 and expanded to 500 million dollar in 2000. Samsung Electronics is planning to take up 40% of the market share in 1999. The graphic performance in a computer is determined not by the main memkory, but by the graphic memory. So the larger the capacity of the graphic memory, the more color can be expressed and the better the resolution. The faster the speed of input/output of information of memory, the smoother the complex and fast changing images can be shown.
