The Samsung U.S. SOC R&D Lab was founded in 2010 as a research center for cellular modem systems and solutions. Over the years, the lab expanded its research and development roles into two main fields, wireless communications and multimedia processing. R&D efforts in wireless communications include 5G cellular New Radio (NR) access technologies, RFIC, ASIC, and connectivity (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/Locations/IoT). R&D efforts for multimedia processing include design and implementation of algorithms for computational photography, computer vision, speech processing, and deep/machine learning. SOC Lab consists of approximately 200 engineers in several U.S. locations and is growing rapidly.
